A personal reflection on faith, friendship, and mission during the Alphonsian Youth Gathering in the Philippines from May 12–20, 2026.
“See how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.” — Psalm 133:1
As the curtains finally close on the Alfonsian Youth Gathering 2026, I find myself sitting with a heart that is both deeply full and painfully heavy at the same time. Full because of the immense love, grace, and beauty that God allowed me to experience throughout this journey. Heavy because a part of me is still not ready to let go of this chapter so soon.

First and foremost, I thank God for allowing me to be part of AYG 2026. Truly, this gathering was more than just an event — it felt like a glimpse of Heaven on Earth. Through every encounter, conversation, prayer, and quiet moment, I encountered Christ so vividly through His people. I also want to thank Mother Mary for watching over all of us throughout the pilgrimage. There were many moments where I genuinely felt Her maternal presence guiding and protecting us. And to Jesus, thank You for blessing us with such beautiful weather throughout the programme, allowing every activity, procession, and gathering to unfold so smoothly and joyfully.
One of the things that moved me most deeply was the warmth and hospitality of the Filipino locals from the host country and provinces. Despite many of us being complete strangers, we were welcomed with such sincerity, gentleness, and generosity. There was something incredibly humbling about the way people gave so much of themselves so freely and unconditionally. Their smiles, kindness, and willingness to serve reminded me so much of Christ Himself.
What also left a strong impression on me was the intensity and passion people carried — not only in their faith, but in everything they did. Whether through performances, guest lectures, worship sessions, or even simple interactions, there was so much intentionality and heart poured into every moment. It challenged me deeply because it reminded me that faith is not meant to be lived halfway. Seeing people love God so boldly and unapologetically reignited something within me.

Beyond the programmes themselves, what touched me most was the painfully beautiful Christ-likeness I encountered in every single person throughout AYG 2026. From delegates and volunteers to foster families, priests, religious, and even members of the local communities — every person reflected a different face of Christ to me. Some reflected His compassion, while others reflected His humility, patience, joy, or generosity. There were moments where I genuinely felt undeserving of the kindness I received, yet people continued loving so freely and sincerely anyway. And perhaps that is exactly how Jesus loves us too.
One of the most unforgettable moments for me was participating in the Santa Cruzan procession — truly the most beautiful procession I have ever witnessed and taken part in. I am still overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to portray Our Mother of Perpetual Help for the Malaysia-Singapore delegation. Walking through the streets while honouring and venerating Our Blessed Mother alongside fellow brothers and sisters in Christ was such a deeply moving experience that words honestly fail to fully capture it.

What made the experience even more special was knowing that the procession was not just for us, but also an opportunity to evangelise and spread devotion to Our Lady publicly. Seeing members of the public stopping to watch, taking photos and videos, and witnessing the beauty of the parade reminded me how powerful visible faith can be. In those moments, it felt as though Mother Mary was gently drawing hearts closer to Her Son.
Another moment that remains deeply etched into my soul was the praise-and-worship session. I can confidently say it was one of the most intense, passionate, and spirit-filled worship experiences I have ever encountered. Hearing the testimonies of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, witnessing their vulnerability, and worshipping together so wholeheartedly was incredibly moving. There was such raw sincerity in the room that it became impossible not to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit amongst us. It did not feel performative or rehearsed — it felt real.

And it reminded me once again that God continues to work powerfully through ordinary people who simply surrender themselves to Him. At the same time, some of the most meaningful moments came through the simplest forms of fellowship. Conversations over meals, late-night dialogues, shared laughter while travelling, and random exchanges with strangers who quickly became friends slowly became the moments that stitched all our hearts together. Through these little interactions, I realised how beautiful it is when people come together not for themselves, but because of a shared love for Christ. There was a genuine desire amongst everyone to encourage one another, accompany one another, and grow together in faith.
As AYG 2026 now comes to an end, I realise that although we have all returned to different countries, communities, and routines, a part of us will always remain here — in the memories, friendships, prayers, and encounters we shared together. And perhaps that is the bittersweet beauty of gatherings like this. They remind us that Heaven is real because, for a brief moment, we experienced a small glimpse of it through one another.
To the organising committee, thank you for carrying such a massive responsibility with so much dedication, patience, and love. Every detail of the programme was curated so thoughtfully and beautifully that it was impossible not to recognise the countless sacrifices happening behind the scenes. There is no doubt that sleepless nights, stress, and exhaustion went into making AYG 2026 what it was, yet all of you continued showing up each day with energy, joy, and love that uplifted all of us even more. Thank you for making every single moment unforgettable.
To all the foster families, thank you for opening not only your homes, but also your hearts to all of us. I hold especially close to my heart the immense gratitude I have for my own foster family. Despite only knowing us for a short while, they welcomed us as though we were truly their own family. They cared for us, worried for us, fed us, laughed with us, and loved us so selflessly. Even when language barriers existed at times, love itself became the language we all understood. Their home became a place of comfort and peace amidst the busyness of the gathering, and I will forever carry their love with me long after AYG ends. Even if they did not have it all, they gave so generously and loved so sincerely. Their richness in spirit is something I will never forget.

To all priests and religious, thank you for guiding us spiritually throughout this entire journey and
constantly leading us closer to Christ through your words, prayers, and witness.
And finally, to every delegate and volunteer — thank you for giving your fullest selves to God and to AYG 2026 every single day. Thank you for the prayers, laughter, conversations, encouragement, and memories. Thank you for reminding me what it truly means to be one body in Christ.
AYG 2026 may have come to an end, but the love, faith, and fire it ignited within our hearts will continue long after this farewell. And for that, I will always be grateful.
